This project explores the liminality of a fishing jetty in Chimbai Village, Mumbai. Serving as both a conduit to the ocean and a gateway to the Chimbai village, the jetty remains a vital space for the indigenous Koli fishing community and offers a glimpse into the rhythms of daily life by the sea. Amidst ongoing developments, such as Mumbai’s Coastal Road — a 29.2km motorway linking the north and south of the city along its western coastline — the coastal landscape is undergoing significant transformation. Such changes place the Kolis in a liminal position, caught between preserving their ancestral practices and adapting to the demands of an evolving environment.

By presenting the jetty as a vital yet precarious site of labour, Living on the Edge contributes to broader discussions on urban change, environmental sustainability, and the significance of shared spaces in the Anthropocene.
